Plugin Cars writer Colby Trudeau says his place of work has 7 Blink charging stations, and 6 of them start overheating after charging his Fit EV for about 20 minutes.
Fortunately, the Fit EV has a thermal monitoring device that stops the charge when the temperature gets too hot and risks damaging the car.
Honda has said that it is “monitoring the situation” and looking into it further while reminding of the car’s protection devices to prevent overheating. In a separate statement, Ecotality said “there is no clear cause” to the overheating and the company is aware of issues involving the Fit EV and the Toyota Rav4 EV. Ecotality said it is currently working with Honda and Toyota to find a solution to the problem.
The Fit EV and Rav4 EV can use the stations to charge at Level 1, 12-amps, without issues, but of course charging that way takes much longer than with the 30-amp Level 2 charging.
