Honda Fit EV now available on East Coast

Yesterday Honda sent out an email blast titled ‘Fit EV now on both coasts.’ Last year, the Honda Fit EV was initially launched in Oregon and California markets.

Since then, drivers of the Fit EV have “experienced its exceptional range, short charge time, and practical interior.”

The Honda Fit EV is rated at 118 MPGe, and Honda says there is already a waiting list.

To begin the lease process, and see if Honda accepts you, they have an EV Readiness Assessment for you to take.

Considering the Honda Fit EV has been labelled as a compliance EV merely to meet the California regulations for clean cars, it’s slightly surprising they have expanded to the East Coast and that they are advertising it to other buyers when they already have a full waiting list. Maybe this is a slight glimmer of hope that if the Fit EV has good sales, Honda may decide to produce more than the 1,100 cars for the 2013 and 2014 model years?!

Update: In a NY Times article dated January 24th 2013, Robyn Eagles, a spokeswoman for Honda, is cited as saying that the Fit EV was not a compliance car. “We’re trying to understand the market,” she said in an interview. “For the first few years, production may appear low, but we’re simply gauging consumers’ interest in these vehicles and will adjust volumes as needed.”
