Toyota Mirai Fuel Cell Sedan priced at $57,700

While we are all about electric vehicles, and some argue that a fuel cell vehicle is not an EV, we still wanted to bring you this news as the Toyota fuel-cell vehicle is a vehicle where the wheels are driven by an electric motor.

After many years of development and testing, Toyota has finally decided to bring its fuel cell vehicle to market. At a launch event on Monday night, Toyota provided details, pricing, as well as a name for its FCEV – the ‘Mirai’ which means future.

On December 15th, the Mirai will be on sale in Japan for 7,236,000 yen including tax.

In the USA, the price will be $57,500, which is around $45,000 after incentives. The Mirai will hit California streets in the fall of 2015. Volume will be restricted to less than 200 units in the fall quarter, and will increase to more than 3,000 units by the end of 2017.

In Europe, Toyota is planning around 50-100 vehicles per year in 2015 and 2016. The Toyota Mirai will be around 66,000 € + VAT (Germany), with sales starting in the UK, Denmark and Germany with more countries being added in 2017.
