Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive launches in the UK at the start of 2015

Sales of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive will start in the United Kingdom in the first quarter of 2015. Since the B-Class EV is first launching in the US in ‘select states’, many are concerned this will be another compliance electric vehicle. This announcement is further proof that the B-Class Electric isn’t merely a compliance vehicle.

After launching in select states in the US in 2014, the 2015 B-Class Electric Drive will be available nationwide at the start of 2015, and will also launch in the UK and Germany around the same time.

Mercedes says the price of the B-Class EV in the UK will be around £32,000. With the £5,000 plug-in vehicle grant in the UK, the out-of-pocket cost will be £27,000, around £1,300 more than the BMW i3.

The B-Class is being made at the Mercedes plant in Rastatt, Germany. Powered by a 177 hp electric motor and a battery pack provided by Tesla, the B-Class is set to be a strong contender in the electric vehicle market.
