Ford Fusion Energi delivers 620-mile range, 21 miles of pure EV range

The 2013 Fusion Energi sedan is Ford’s newest plug-in hybrid vehicle, following the release of the C-max Energi back in November 2012.The Fusion Energi is now Ford’s fifth electrified vehicle launched since late 2011 (along with the Focus Electric, Fusion Hybrid, C-max Hybrid, and C-max Energi).

The Ford Fusion Energi is capable of traveling up to 620 miles without having to stop to refuel the gas tank or recharge the battery when starting with a full charged battery and a full gas tank.

Just as Ford’s C-max Energi media campaigns targeted the Prius, so do these ones. Ford is quick to point out that the Fusion Energi is capable of 21 miles in pure EV mode, which is almost triple the electric only range of the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid and double the electric only range of the Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid.

On top of great range, the Fusion Energi has EPA-rated efficiency of 108 MPGe in the city and 92 MPGe on the highway, which is 5 MPGe greater than the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid. With these efficiency ratings, the EPA says customers can save up to $6,850 in fuel costs compared with an average new car over the course of 5 years.

In the 4th quarter of 2012, Ford sold 19,554 hybrid models and has climbed to the number 1 slot in ‘fuel efficiency customer satisfaction’ according to J.D. Power.

The new Ford Fusion Energi uses Ford’s unique powersplit technology that consists of more than 200 patents alone – Ford holds over 500 patents in the area of hybrid technology.
