This year at the Geneva Motor Show, Land Rover unveiled 7 electrified Land Rover Defender research vehicles. The Land Rover Advanced Engineering team replaced the diesel drivetrain in the 110-seeries Defender with an electric motor that can put out 94 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque. The power runs through a single speed transmission, and is powered by a lithium ion battery pack with a 27 kWh capacity. Range will be somewhere above the 50 mile mark, and give about 8 hours of low-speed off-road work. Recharge time is about 4 hours with a 7kW quick charger.
The testbed Defender is air-cooled, and still runs like a traditional Land Rover with full time 4wd and capacity to cross 800 millimeter deep water.
When can I trade my 04 discovery for a Land Rover EV? A Defender would be perfect!!! Come on Land Rover build an EV for the West coast of the USA.
