GM CEO confirms 200 mile electric vehicle is in the works

GM still hasn’t released details about the electric range on the 2014 Chevy Spark EV, but its a safe guess it will land somewhere in the 70-100 mile range, just like all of the current electric vehicles on the market.

GM CEO Dan Akerson recently confirmed the company is working on a 200 mile electric vehicle – perhaps a Spark EV, but perhaps not. He went on to say that GM is ‘running a dual play’ with EV technology to develop both a 100 mile and a 200 mile EV.

Akerson also spoke positively about the broaader adoption of natural gas use among fleet operators. He estimates a typical class 8 fleet operator could save as much as $3500 a month by switching to natural gas.

He also reiterated a claim that GM will have a half-million electrified vehicles on US roads by 2017.
