2015 Mini Cooper unveiled, plug-in hybrid version likely

Mini has revealed the completely revamped 2015 Mini Cooper, and Mini has said that a plug-in hybrid version will be coming. The 2015 Mini is the first vehicle to use BMW’s new front-wheel-drive platform that will underpin around 10 BMW and Mini vehicles.

It’s believed the plug-in hybrid version of the Mini Cooper will debut sometime in 2015, but a timeline for launch is not yet set.

Mini is also weighing the pros and cons of a pure battery electric vehicle, and there’s been some speculation that an EV will eventually make it into production.

If there was a pure electric version of the Mini Cooper, it could cut into sales of the BMW i3, so that’s likely why the Mini will go the plug-in hybrid route.
