Volkswagen issued a press release on March 3 stating that the production version of the ID. CROZZ concept EV will be called the ID.4.
The ID.4 is a long-range compact electric SUV, and it’s a global car that will be produced and sold in Europe, China, and North America.
First launch for the VW ID.4 is set for Europe in 2020, and will follow the ID.3 compact EV.
Design of the ID.4 is from the ground up, taking into account the advantages of an electric drivetrain. The front overhang is very short, and the wheelbase is long, making more space for front seat legroom without wheelwell protrusions. With the battery pack located under the passenger area, the ID.4 electric vehicle has a low center of gravity and a well-balanced weight distribution.
Range options for the Volkswagen ID. 4 are available up to 500 kilometers on the WTLP test cycle, and an all-wheel drive version will also be available after launch.
ID stands for Intellegent Design, and the number 4 identifies the new EV as a compact SUV. Volkswagen also claims the ID.4 is the world’s first climate-neutral Compact SUV; it will be produced at Volkswagen’s Zwickau plant which is a carbon neutral plant.
