Meet Lynk & Co 900: Big Power, Bigger Questions

Lynk & Co, the Zeekr-backed brand that’s part of the ever-expanding Geely empire, has unveiled its newest flagship: the Lynk & Co 900. This plug-in hybrid SUV enters the market with big dimensions, impressive tech, and a bold ambition to carve out a space among luxury hybrid SUVs. But as with any debut, there are plenty of specs to admire and a few questions left unanswered.

The Big Picture: Size and Style

If size matters, the Lynk & Co 900 isn’t playing around. Measuring 5,240 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,810 mm in height, with a 3,160 mm wheelbase, it’s the largest vehicle Lynk & Co has ever produced.

That’s serious real estate on wheels, making it a true contender in the three-row SUV segment. It’s wrapped in a sleek design language called “The Next Day,” complete with blacked-out pillars for a floating roof effect and concealed door handles for that extra-modern touch.

Think Range Rover vibes but with a touch of Scandinavian restraint—a nod to Lynk & Co’s Volvo (VOLV-B.ST) connections. Color choices span five shades, including Midnight Black, Cloudy Gray, and Morning Dawn Blue. These poetic names add a dash of marketing flair, but let’s not pretend they’ll change your morning commute.

Powertrains: A Trio of Choices

Under the hood—and all four wheels—the Lynk & Co 900 offers three powertrain options, each delivering hybrid muscle. The entry-level hybrid combines a 1.5T engine with a 160 kW front motor and a 230 kW rear motor, resulting in a total output of 530 kW.

Moving up the ladder, the mid-tier hybrid features a 2.0T engine paired with a 123 kW front motor and a 230 kW rear motor, producing 540 kW of total power. At the top of the range is the flagship powertrain, which also uses a 2.0T engine but with three electric motors—a 123 kW motor at the front and two 160 kW motors at the rear—achieving a combined output of 630 kW.

Each version promises a top speed of over 200 km/h, with silicon carbide-powered electric motors for added efficiency. However, real-world range and fuel economy figures remain a mystery as Lynk & Co has yet to release this critical information.

Tech-Laden Interior: More Screens Than a Home Theater

Inside, the Lynk & Co 900 is a tech lover’s dream. The dashboard is dominated by a 30-inch 6K floating screen, seamlessly integrating infotainment and passenger entertainment. Powered by dual Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chips, the system promises smooth performance—at least on paper.

A secondary 12.66-inch driver display and what is likely an augmented reality head-up display round out the futuristic cockpit. Charging devices is made convenient with dual wireless charging pads on the center console. In the second row, a slide-out fridge adds an unexpected luxury touch.

Lynk & Co highlights the vehicle’s 42 storage compartments, ergonomically designed to accommodate everything from sunglasses to lipstick. The 300-liter trunk expands with a split tailgate, and a hidden compartment adds an extra 20 liters of storage space.

Comfort Meets Capability

The Lynk & Co 900’s suspension system is engineered for versatility. Its continuous damping control actively adjusts to road conditions, ensuring a smooth ride. A dual-chamber air suspension system enhances handling, especially during sharp turns.

The digital AI chassis enables features such as a “waltz U-turn” and “crab mode,” demonstrating innovative, albeit niche, capabilities. While these features sound impressive, their practical utility in everyday driving remains to be seen.

The Missing Piece: Pricing

As of now, Lynk & Co hasn’t disclosed pricing for the 900. With its premium features and advanced tech, it’s clear the brand aims to compete with heavyweights like BYD’s Denza N9. The SUV is set to hit global markets in March 2025, but the price tag will determine whether it’s a genuine rival or just a big, beautiful “what if.”

Charge Complete: Final Thoughts

The Lynk & Co 900 is ambitious, offering luxury touches, advanced hybrid tech, and ample space to challenge segment leaders. However, its success hinges on more than just specs.

Can Lynk & Co deliver competitive pricing, solid range, and a compelling ownership experience? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. One thing’s certain: this flagship SUV has set its sights high, and it’ll be fascinating to watch if it can reach those lofty goals.
