Genesis GV60 Magma: The Next Generation of Luxury EV

Genesis embarks in a new era with the launch of its all-electric GV60 Magma, the first model in the brand’s new high-performance lineup. Announced at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, the GV60 Magma is set to hit the market next year, marking a significant leap forward for the luxury automaker.

Genesis, known for its dedication to luxury and performance, introduced the GV60 back in 2021, making it its first dedicated electric vehicle. Fast forward three years, and the GV60 is the leading model in the brand’s Magma lineup. This program is described as Genesis’ “expansion into the realm of high-performance vehicles”, aiming to offer a high-end variant for each model in its program. In many ways, the GV60 Magma will be like the regular GV60, but on steroids.

Performance Enhancements

The GV60 Magma comes with an array of performance and design upgrades. It boasts an improved battery and motor, alongside fine-tuned chassis and thermodynamics, providing a sportier and more dynamic driving experience. Lower and wider than its predecessor, the GV60 Magma features a lower center of gravity, enhancing its agility and handling.

In terms of power, while exact specifications remain under wraps, the GV60 Magma is expected to exceed the performance of the standard GV60. Genesis has hinted at a power output comparable to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N’s 641 horsepower, thanks to its shared E-GMP platform. This would position the GV60 Magma as a formidable contender in the high-performance EV market.

If the GV60 Magma doesn’t gain a lot of weight over the standard model, those power figures mean that it will be quick, very quick.

Design and Technology

Visually, the GV60 Magma distinguishes itself with a sportier profile. The exterior design includes a lowered ride height, widened body, and a rear spoiler and difuser, enhancing both aesthetics and aerodynamics. The vehicle will also feature a Magma-exclusive sound system, promising an immersive auditory experience.

Inside, the GV60 Magma introduces a new human-machine interface (HMI), focusing on displaying only essential data and functions. This minimalist approach aims to keep drivers fully engaged and immersed in the driving experience. Each Magma vehicle will embody three core attributes: Unspoken Dominance, Captivating Control, and Sharpened Immersion.

Global Debut and Future Plans

The GV60 Magma made its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This marks the first time a Magma model has been seen in the flesh, setting the stage for future high-performance variants from Genesis.

Genesis has ambitious plans for the Magma lineup. The GV60 Magma will be followed by the launch of the G80 EV Magma concept, aimed to challenge the Tesla Model S Plaid. Production of the GV60 Magma is set to begin in the third quarter of 2025, with sales starting in South Korea and expanding to Europe by the end of the year. U.S. availability is expected in the first half of 2026. We’re all hyped, but we have to wait another 2 years.

A New Chapter in Luxury EVs

The introduction of the GV60 Magma signals Genesis’ commitment to pushing the boundaries of luxury and performance in the electric vehicle market. As the brand continues to evolve, the Magma program represents a significant and crucial step forward, blending cutting-edge technology with Genesis’ signature elegance and sophistication.

With the GV60 Magma, Genesis is not just entering the high-performance EV arena but is poised to redefine it. As more details emerge, one thing is clear: the GV60 Magma is set to become a benchmark for luxury electric SUVs, paving the way for future innovations from Genesis.

Based on everything Genesis claimed about the GV60 Magma, we should see a strong competitor in this segment. “Should” is the key word here and we’ll need to wait and see how it will compete.
