Fiat announces totally new Fiat 500 ev

Fiat Chrysler announced they will be creating an all-new Fiat 500 electric vehicle, and production will be moving to Italy (from Mexico). The investment will also include 13 all-new or restyled models during the next 3 years.

On November 29, Fiat Chrysler Automotive held a meeting where they announced the product plan for their Italian plants for 2018 to 2022. CEO Mike Manley said that Mirafori Italy “will represent the first installation of a full [battery electric vehicle] platform applied on the new Fiat 500”.

CFO Pietro Gorlier went on to explain that the investment in Italy for 2019-2021 period will total more than $5 billion and will focus on the “use of common, flexible and electric vehicle platforms”.

The current model of the Fiat 500e uses a 24 kWh batter pack, and gets around 60-75 miles of range per charge.
