The Zeekr 7X: Better Than the Tesla Model Y?

In a wave of excitement, only days after Zeekr unveiled camouflaged photos of its first mid-sized 7X SUV, more detailed images have surfaced. These provide a clearer look at this highly anticipated mid-sized electric SUV. Building on the foundation of the Zeekr 007, the 7X boasts an 800V electrical architecture, promising a remarkable range of over 700 km.

The Zeekr 7X is larger than its compact sibling, the Zeekr X, and features the letter ‘X’ to signify its place in Zeekr’s SUV lineup. Designed with a golden ratio of 0.618, the 7X aims to offer a visually pleasing and balanced aesthetic. This meticulous design approach underscores Zeekr’s commitment to harmonizing form and function, ensuring the 7X stands out in a crowded market.

Innovative design elements are abundant in the 7X. The front showcases a continuous interactive light strip, lower headlamp clusters, and a roof equipped with a laser radar for the advanced driver-assistance systems. Concealed door handles and a near-continuous taillight design at the rear, featuring Zeekr’s new super red LED technology, contribute to its sleek and futuristic look. These design choices not only enhance the vehicle’s visual appeal but also improve aerodynamics, further boosting efficiency.

Dimensions and Platform

Built on the PMA2+ platform derived from the SEA modular architecture, the 7X measures 4825 mm in length, 1930 mm in width, and 1656 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2925 mm. This makes it slightly smaller than the Zeekr 007 but still substantial in size.

The dimensions place it comfortably within the mid-sized SUV category, offering ample interior space without compromising on maneuverability.

Powertrain and Battery Options

“Under the hood”, the 7X is powered by high-performance silicon carbide motors and offers a choice between lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and ternary lithium batteries. The entry-level model uses Geely’s “Golden Brick” LFP battery, with the ability to charge up to 500 km in just 15 minutes utilizing the high-voltage 800V system. Higher-end models will feature a ternary NMC battery developed by CATL, similar to those in the 007 sedan.

This dual-battery strategy allows Zeekr to cater to a broader range of customer needs, from those prioritizing affordability to those seeking maximum performance and range.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the 7X follows the minimalist design trend of the Zeekr 007, with a curved instrument panel, floating center screen, and a steering wheel featuring a new design. The spacious and tech-laden interior is designed to cater to the needs of modern families. Advanced connectivity features and driver-assistance technologies ensure that the 7X is not just a mode of transport but a hub of convenience and safety.

Competitive Pricing and Market Positioning

Priced between 240,000 and 350,000 yuan (approximately $33,000 to $48,200 USD), the Zeekr 7X is set to compete with other electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y, Li Auto L6, and Onvo L60. Some may argue if it will be better than the Model Y, which remains to be seen. One thing is for sure, it definitely is more affordable.

It aims to capture a significant share of the mainstream family EV market when it launches by the end of the year. This competitive pricing strategy highlights Zeekr’s ambition to make high-quality electric vehicles accessible to a wider audience. Affordable EVs are essential to have more people consider vehicles from this segment.

Zeekr’s Evolution and Market Impact

Zeekr, founded in 2021, has quickly established itself with a range of innovative electric vehicles. The 7X will be its first family SUV and second model aimed at the mainstream EV market, following the Zeekr 007 sedan. The company’s rapid growth and bold moves in the electric vehicle sector reflect its commitment to driving the future of sustainable transportation. Imagine, the company has been around for a few years and it’s already making waves.

Looking Ahead: The Future of the Zeekr 7X

As Zeekr prepares for the official launch of the 7X, the automotive world watches with anticipation. This new model represents a significant milestone for the brand, symbolizing its evolution from a niche player to a major contender in the global electric vehicle market. The Zeekr 7X is a vehicle showcasing what the future of mobility can look like when innovation meets commitment.

The Zeekr 7X is set to redefine the standards for mid-sized electric SUVs. Its blend of cutting-edge technology, thoughtful design, and competitive pricing positions it as a formidable competitor in the electric vehicle market. As we look forward to its release, the Zeekr 7X promises to deliver an unparalleled experience, marking a new chapter in the journey towards a sustainable and exciting automotive future. As good as all of this sounds, it remains to be seen how good the 7X will be and if it will get people’s attention.
