Compact Size, Big Capabilities
At just 152 inches in length, the MT1 challenges the conventional notion of what a truck should be. Despite its diminutive size, this compact EV boasts a 60-inch truck bed, which is even larger than the Rivian R1T.
Thanks to an innovative midgate design, the MT1 can accommodate long items such as 4-by-8-foot sheets of plywood or a 9-foot surfboard, making it a practical choice for work or recreation. TELO’s engineers have focused on utility without unnecessary bulk, shunning the oversized hoods typical of traditional trucks in favor of more aerodynamic and functional features.
Refinements like a rounded roofline and optimized wheel arches were crafted using computational fluid dynamics software, boosting the truck’s overall efficiency.
Trim Options for Every Need
TELO offers two distinct powertrains for the MT1, tailored to meet different driving needs. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive configuration generates 300 horsepower and delivers a range of 260 miles with its 79-kWh Standard battery.
For those requiring greater performance, the dual-motor all-wheel-drive option produces 500 horsepower and includes a 106-kWh Long Range battery, extending the range to over 350 miles.
Buyers can select the Long Range battery for an additional cost, and with fast-charging capabilities, the MT1 can recover 210 miles of range in just 20 minutes, making it as convenient as it is versatile.
Pricing That Turns Heads
When TELO first announced the MT1, its projected cost was just under $50,000—a competitive figure for the EV truck segment. However, the company has managed to exceed expectations by offering the base model for $41,520. After factoring in federal tax credits, the price drops to under $35,000, making it one of the most affordable options in its category.
Despite its compact size, the MT1 doesn’t compromise on utility, with a towing capacity of 6,600 pounds and a payload rating of 1,600 pounds. These specifications make it equally capable for professional use and weekend adventures.
Customization Made Simple
TELO’s newly launched mobile configurator allows prospective buyers to personalize their vehicles easily. Available in eight vibrant colorways, the configurator provides an engaging experience for customers to design their ideal MT1.
Although the current options are relatively limited, TELO has promised additional features and accessories will be added as the launch date approaches. This tool reflects the company’s commitment to making the purchasing process both intuitive and enjoyable.
The Road Ahead
TELO is on track to begin delivering the MT1 in late 2025, with early production models already in development. A partnership with the Aria Group has helped transition the MT1 from concept to reality, with the first hand-built chassis complete and ready to drive production forward.
However, scaling production and meeting demand remain significant hurdles for the company, as is often the case with EV startups. Co-founder and CTO Forrest North brings valuable expertise to the table, having been instrumental in developing the Tesla Roadster’s battery pack.
