Mitsubishi CEO Osamu Masuko says the automaker will produce plug-in hybrid versions of the next generation ASX crossover and the Pajjero/Shogun SUV. The 2 plug-in hybrids will join the Outlander PHEV which is already on sale throughout Europe and in New Zealand.
The conventionally powered ASX replacement will launch in 2016 and the plug-in version will go on sale in Europe and other markets in 2017.
The next generation Pajero and its plug-in hyrid version are likely going to arrive in 2018, said Masuko.
Masuko did not give details on the powertrain that would be in the new plug-in hybrids, but chances are it will be similar to the popular Outlander PHEV with its 121hp gasoline engine and 60kW electric motor.
The ASX is the best selling Mitsubishi vehicle in Europe, with over 22000 units sold through August. The Outlander is not far behind, with over 20,000 units sold in the same time period.
