CES 2025 set the stage for Honda’s (HMC) latest leap into the electric future with the world preview of the Honda 0 Series. Designed to redefine mobility, this lineup includes the flagship 0 Saloon and the 0 SUV, both promising cutting-edge technology, sleek designs, and ambitious goals for autonomous driving.

The 0 Saloon: Low, Lean, and Loaded

Honda’s 0 Saloon prototype is a masterclass in aerodynamic design. With its cab-forward stance, clean lines, and futuristic wedge shape, this EV screams sophistication. Despite its compact exterior dimensions, the interior offers a surprisingly spacious cabin—a testament to Honda’s “Thin, Light, and Wise” development philosophy.

The 0 Saloon features a low-slung profile paired with dramatic rear-window kick-ups and a striking lighting signature. It is built on a dedicated EV architecture targeting at least 300 miles of range. Equipped with Level 3 autonomous driving capability for highway conditions, the vehicle’s functionality will expand over time through updates.

Central to the Saloon’s operation is the in-house-developed Asimo OS, which integrates everything from infotainment to autonomous driving systems. Scheduled for a North American launch in late 2026, the 0 Saloon is poised to become Honda’s flagship EV, embodying the brand’s vision for the future.

The 0 SUV: Rugged Meets Refined

The 0 SUV, Honda’s answer to the growing demand for electric crossovers, builds on the 2024 Space-Hub concept but adopts a more traditional SUV form. Its robust yet sleek design includes a two-tone exterior, pixelated headlights, and a bold illuminated Honda logo.

High-precision attitude control via 3D gyro sensors ensures dynamic performance across diverse terrains. Inside, the 0 SUV is packed with digital displays, including peripheral screens for side cameras, although traditional mirrors are expected for U.S. models. The SUV is equipped with the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port for seamless Tesla (TSLA) Supercharger access.

Manufactured at Honda’s EV Hub in Ohio, it will arrive in the first half of 2026, marking another milestone in Honda’s EV evolution.

Powering the Future: Honda’s Tech Revolution

Honda’s 0 Series is as much about software as hardware. At the heart of these EVs lies the Asimo OS, named after Honda’s iconic humanoid robot. This advanced operating system allows for over-the-air updates, ensuring the vehicles’ software evolves over time. It integrates autonomous driving systems with infotainment, providing a seamless user experience.

The AI-driven Level 3 automation uses behavior modeled on experienced human drivers to handle complex scenarios. Energy management features enable vehicle-to-grid functionality for cost-effective charging and grid stabilization. The system’s personalization capabilities ensure each user’s preferences are met, making the driving experience unique and tailored.

Hardware Innovations: Collaboration with Renesas

In partnership with Renesas Electronics (RNECF), Honda is developing a state-of-the-art system-on-chip (SoC) to power the centralized electronic architecture of the 0 Series. The collaboration focuses on efficiency, with the multi-die chipset delivering 2,000 TOPS with 20 TOPS/W efficiency, maximizing AI performance while minimizing energy use.

This SoC integrates a single core ECU to manage everything from ADAS to climate control, replacing the traditional distributed ECUs. By streamlining functionality, Honda is ensuring that the 0 Series delivers exceptional performance without compromising energy efficiency.

Building the Infrastructure for EV Success

Honda isn’t just thinking about the vehicles; it’s also investing in the infrastructure to support them. Through the IONNA joint venture, Honda aims to deploy over 30,000 charging stations in the U.S. by 2030.

These chargers will complement the vehicles’ advanced home charging capabilities, which optimize for renewable energy and low electricity costs. This comprehensive charging network will make EV ownership more accessible and practical, further encouraging adoption.

The Road Ahead

The Honda 0 Series represents a bold vision for the future of electric mobility. With its cutting-edge designs, autonomous driving capabilities, and commitment to sustainable energy solutions, Honda is positioning itself as a leader in the EV revolution.

While questions remain about pricing and market reception, one thing is clear: the 0 Series is more than just a lineup—it’s a statement.

Charge Complete

Honda’s 0 Series is a reinvention of what electric vehicles can be. From the luxurious 0 Saloon to the versatile 0 SUV, these models are set to electrify the market—literally and figuratively.

With production slated for 2026, the countdown to the future of mobility has officially begun.
