How GM and EVgo Are Making EV Charging Easier for Everyone

It’s not every day you celebrate 2,000 milestones, but for General Motors (GM) and EVgo (EVGO), this one deserves the spotlight.

The dynamic duo in fast-charging infrastructure has officially installed its 2,000th public fast-charging stall, a major benchmark in their mission to electrify America. Let’s dive into what this milestone means for EV drivers, urban centers, and the future of charging accessibility.

Strategic Charging for a Changing Landscape

GM and EVgo’s partnership, which began in 2020, focuses on one thing: convenience. These 2,000 fast chargers aren’t scattered aimlessly—they’re strategically stationed across 390 locations in 45 cities and 32 states. Whether you’re picking up groceries or cruising through city centers, chances are a fast charger is nearby. This is especially critical for renters and urbanites without access to at-home charging options.

Take the 2,000th charger itself, for example. Nestled in Murrieta, California, off Interstate 215, this site offers five 350kW fast chargers capable of juicing up to ten vehicles simultaneously. Need a coffee or a quick snack while your car charges? You’re covered. These stations aim to integrate charging into your everyday life, making the transition to EVs less of a leap and more of a stride.

The Bigger Picture: 2,850 and Beyond

While hitting 2,000 chargers is impressive, GM and EVgo are not slowing down. Their goal is to install 2,850 DC fast chargers nationwide, including 400 flagship sites in key metro markets like California, Texas, and New York.

These flagship locations will go beyond basic functionality—think covered stalls, lighting, and amenities that make charging less of a chore and more of a break.

This rapid expansion isn’t just about convenience; it’s about boosting “range confidence.” EV owners want to know they can rely on fast, accessible charging wherever they go, and GM and EVgo are betting big that this accessibility will accelerate EV adoption.

Doubling Down on Progress

What’s even more striking than the milestone itself is the pace. Just 16 months ago, GM and EVgo celebrated their 1,000th charger in Illinois. Doubling their network in such a short time showcases their commitment to meeting growing EV demand head-on.

Dennis Kish, President of EVgo, summed it up: “Working with trusted automakers like GM has accelerated the buildout of our nationwide network, inspiring range confidence for today’s EV drivers and the drivers we will welcome to the EVgo network in the years to come.”

Charge Complete

For GM and EVgo, this is more than a milestone—it’s a promise. As they march toward 2,850 chargers and beyond, their efforts are reshaping what it means to own an EV in the United States.

From Murrieta to Manhattan, drivers can charge faster, drive further, and worry less. The all-electric future? It’s already charging ahead.
