From Starfighter Concept to Reality: The Tai 3 is Here

Fang Cheng Bao, BYD’s rugged sub-brand, has unveiled its second lineup, “Titanium” (or “Tai” in Chinese), aimed at families seeking a blend of practicality and adventure.

The Tai lineup represents a shift in Fang Cheng Bao’s focus, emphasizing family-first functionality without losing its hard-core appeal. Leading this new series is the Tai 3 mid-size SUV, set to launch in the first half of 2025, with a starting price rumored to be around ¥200,000 (approximately $27,600 USD).

From Off-Road to All-Round: BYD’s Strategic Pivot

The Titanium series builds on Fang Cheng Bao’s original Bao lineup, which was defined by its off-road-ready, body-on-frame vehicles. The Tai series, however, moves in a new direction, embracing a unibody construction that emphasizes safety, comfort, and cutting-edge technology.

Titanium, the namesake of this new series, symbolizes strength, adaptability, and versatility—qualities Fang Cheng Bao aims to embed in its electric SUVs.

Fang Cheng Bao’s debut Bao 5 SUV, launched in 2023, resonated strongly with family buyers, who made up around 70% of its user base. Recognizing this trend, Fang Cheng Bao has leaned into family-friendly features with the Tai lineup, merging rugged capabilities with stylish practicality to cater to a broader market.

Tai 3: A Family SUV with a Futuristic Twist

The Tai 3, inspired by the earlier Super 3 concept, offers a compelling mix of innovation and bold design. Its dimensions—4,605 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,720 mm in height (or 1,930 mm with the optional roof drone cabin)—highlight its versatility. The unibody construction provides a sleek, cohesive look that departs from the Bao lineup’s body-on-frame approach.

Performance-wise, the Tai 3 is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, delivering 110 kW from the front motor and 200 kW from the rear. The vehicle achieves a top speed of 201 km/h and is equipped with BYD’s renowned Blade battery, ensuring reliability and safety. Optional features include a futuristic roof drone cabin that enhances its functionality and elevates its visual appeal, while the standard trim includes a panoramic sunroof for a touch of luxury.

The Tai 3’s design blends futuristic aesthetics with practicality. It retains the starfighter-inspired elements of the Super 3 concept, emphasizing clean lines and a sculpted metal body that reflect individuality. Its approach and departure angles, at 25° and 28° respectively, underscore its capability to handle a variety of terrains, making it a versatile choice for families who value adventure.

A Nod to Innovation and Local Manufacturing

BYD has ensured that the Tai 3 reflects its commitment to both innovation and local manufacturing. The vehicle will be produced at BYD’s Xi’an and Changzhou facilities, showcasing the company’s focus on domestic excellence.

Additionally, the Tai 3’s lithium iron phosphate battery is supplied by BYD’s FinDreams Battery division, underscoring its vertically integrated production strategy.

What Sets the Tai 3 Apart

The Tai 3 is not just another electric SUV. It represents a new direction for Fang Cheng Bao, redefining the balance between utility and comfort in family vehicles. Its unibody design marks a significant departure from the Bao lineup’s off-road orientation, making it more accessible and practical for everyday use.

With the addition of features like the optional roof drone cabin and BYD’s Blade battery technology, the Tai 3 stands out as a forward-thinking, versatile vehicle that caters to the evolving needs of modern families.

Charge Complete

The Titanium series marks a pivotal moment for Fang Cheng Bao, demonstrating a bold reimagination of what an electric SUV can offer. With the Tai 3 leading the way, BYD is positioning itself as a brand that prioritizes consumer needs, blending innovation with functionality.

As the Tai 3 prepares to hit the market, it promises to offer families a vehicle that is as adventurous as it is practical, embodying a future where utility and style go hand in hand. By adopting this new approach, Fang Cheng Bao is not only meeting market demands but also setting the standard for family-friendly electric SUVs.
