Last week, GM CEO Mary Barra unveiled the production version of the Bolt EV, and confirmed some details like 200 miles of range, around $30,000 US after tax incentives, and available later this year (2016). However, lack of full specifics left us wondering how big was the battery pack, how much horsepower will the electric motor have, and what about quick charging?
Well, this morning, at the 2016 North American International Auto Show, CEO Mary Barra and Mark Ruess, president of operations for GM North America, re-presented the Chevrolet Bolt EV and released specifics about the upcoming 200-mile electric vehicle.
2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV Specifications:
- 60 kWh lithium battery in a ‘skateboard’ configuration that goes from the front foot well to the back of the rear seat. The battery pack weighs 960 lbs
- 200 horsepower (150kW) electric motor with 266 lb-ft of torque
- 0-60 mph acceleration is less than seven seconds, with 0-30 mph in 2.9 seconds
- Top speed of 91 mph/145 km/h
- Level 2 charging system uses a 7.2 kW on-board charger that can take less than 2 hours to get 50 miles range.
- SAE Combo connector allows for DC fast charging that can get 90 miles range in as little as 30 minutes
- One pedal operation allows for regenerative deceleration without using the brake pedal
Josh Travel, the chief engineer on the Bolt EV said that “Being the leader in range and affordability means nothing if the car isn’t going to excite you each time you get behind the wheel. That’s why the team was tasked with delivering a propulsion system that would also make the Bolt EV an electric vehicle that owners would love to drive.”
