Enhanced Range for the i4 eDrive40

The 2025 BMW i4 eDrive40 sees significant improvements in its electric range. Equipped with 18-inch wheels, it now offers an estimated EPA range of up to 318 miles, a 17-mile increase from its predecessor. Even with the optional 19-inch wheels, the range grows to 295 miles, up from the previous 283 miles.

BMW manages to squeeze out a bit more juice while maintaining the same power figures. It’s clear that the company works on improvements. As good as it sounds, it doesn’t come with a slight drawback in terms of acceleration. The previous model had 0-60 times of 5.4 seconds and the 2025 model has 5.5 seconds. It’s not a massive difference, but how are you going to brag to your friends about how fast your electric BMW is?

Changes in Other Models

While the eDrive40 gets a boost, the all-wheel-drive i4 xDrive40 experiences a slight decrease in range. The new model achieves an estimated 287 miles on 18-inch wheels, down from 307 miles. With 19-inch wheels, the range drops to 268 miles from the previous 279 miles. The i4 M50 xDrive also sees a minor reduction, now offering 267 miles, down by 2 miles from before.

Unfortunately, things aren’t always perfect, which is evident from the range drops on some models.

Fresh Design Inside and Out

The 2025 i4 sports a reimagined front end, featuring a high-gloss black kidney grille and slim adaptive LED headlights that create a “Welcome Light” animation. The rear now boasts laser taillights, adding to its modern aesthetic. New color options, including Cape York Green metallic and Vegas Red (Fire Red) metallic, along with several new alloy wheel designs, provide more customization choices.

Inside, the i4 is updated with BMW’s latest iDrive 8.5 system in a digitized cockpit. The cabin features new materials like Sensatec upholstery, M Fine Brushed Aluminum, and Grey Blue Ash open-pored fine wood trim. Standard sport seats in perforated Sensatec and optional Vernasca leather in five colors enhance both comfort and style.

Pricing and Availability

Production of the 2025 BMW i4 began in July at the Munich plant. The eDrive40 model starts at $57,900, while the i4 xDrive40 is priced at $62,300. The i4 M50 starts at $70,700. Although the i4 is not eligible for the $7,500 federal tax credit due to being imported, leasing options still provide some financial benefits.

Some people will be happy to pay more and get more range, but some may be disappointed about the higher price tag and reduced mileage. On the plus side, there are improvements across the entire model range, so it’s not all bad news for the new i4.

Future Prospects

BMW’s commitment to offering a variety of powertrains is evident as they continue to develop both hybrid and combustion engine models alongside their electric vehicles. With production in full swing and deliveries expected soon, the 2025 BMW i4 promises to continue its success in the EV market with its enhanced range, fresh design, and cutting-edge technology.
